1. What are the admission requirements to UNLV Singapore MICE Program?
The UNLV Singapore MICE Program is open to anyone who is either new to the industry or currently working in the industry. This program will provide participants with the resources to expand or upgrade job skills, as well as enable a career transition. The minimum qualifications required for this program is GCE “O” levels qualifications or WSQ (Workforce Skills Qualifications) Literacy and Numeracy Level 5.
2. What is WSQ Literacy and Numeracy Series?
The WSQ Literacy and Numeracy series encompass the various domains of literacy. Currently, assessments for the WSQ Literacy and Numeracy series focus on Reading and Listening, and Numeracy, and are conducted using a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT). Participants with little or no computer knowledge are not disadvantaged during assessment as the system is designed to be fairly simple. It requires point and click on appropriate answers to a series of multiple choice questions using a mouse.

This is an initial assessment of literacy and numeracy abilities. Upon completion of the appraisal, individuals will receive training recommendations. Based on the training recommendations, individuals can then be enrolled for WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy training at any one of the WDA-approved training providers.

3. Are students eligible for financial aid in this program?
Yes. For those participants who meet the criteria, WDA will fund 80% of the course fees.
4. Will I be paid during training or internships?
Yes. Students who are eligible will receive a training and internship allowance during the entire program.
5. What other benefits can I receive from this program?
Upon completion of 8 units of the program, participants will receive 8 WSQ Statements of Attainment (SOAs) and a WSQ Diploma in Tourism – specializing in Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE) and Events under the Tourism WSQ Framework. In addition, they will receive 24 undergraduate credits from UNLV Singapore. These 24 undergraduate credits can be transferred to any University in US or be used to apply for admission into UNLV's undergraduate programs.
6. I understand that that I must seek employment in the MICE industry upon completion of this 8 months program. What are some examples of “MICE and Events-related jobs”?
Generally, a MICE and Events-related job may refer to any of the following (not exhaustive):
- Supervisory positions in the MICE and Events industry
- Event Coordinators in corporate and government organisations
- Representatives from Professional Conference organisations
- Banquet and Venue coordinators in the Hotel and Accommodation, Food and Beverage and Retail industries
- Sales Executives from venue operating organisations
7. If I accept a job in a marketing department with the responsibility of organizing corporate MICE events for its worldwide operations, clients and business partners, is this considered a “MICE and Events-related” job?
A MICE and Events-related job is not restricted to physically working in a MICE or Event company. More importantly, it is the nature of the job that matters, that requires the learner to apply what he/she has learnt from the programme at their workplace.
8. If I start my own business to provide supporting services to the MICE industry, eg a destination management company, is this considered as “employment” in the MICE industry?
The purpose of this programme is to equip the participants with the necessary skills to enter or progress in the MICE and Events industry. Participants are required to apply their newly acquired skills after the course completion in the work environment. If you are starting your own business that allows you to apply your newly acquired MICE and Events-related skills, it can be considered as securing employment in the MICE and Events industry.
9. How do participants report their employment status to UNLV?
Participants are required to sign a confirmation letter that states that they will be committed to the outcomes for funding eligibility. In addition, for those are unemployed or employed in non-MICE and Events industry, they will be required to sign a letter of undertaking to make best effort to secure employment in the MICE and Events industry, for at least six months after training.
Participants will need to update UNLV of their employment and submit valid documentation to verify their employment status to UNLV. Those who cannot fulfill the outcomes will have to repay the subsidy.

11. Why Choose UNLV Singapore?
University of Nevada Las Vegas is well known for its Hospitality Management program, as well as its Tourism and Convention program in Las Vegas. This is the first time UNLV Singapore is offering this program in Singapore. This allows students in the region to be closer to home and to save the costs of international airfare and higher housing costs associate with studying in the United States.
12. What does “not-for-profit / charity institution” mean?
The University of Nevada Las Vegas is a government funded educational institution. UNLV was created to provide a “service” to the community. UNLV Singapore has also been created to increase educational opportunities for students in ASEAN countries and to help the international hospitality industry grow. Additionally, UNLV seeks to expand its international reputation in the region by building its first international campus in Singapore. UNLV Singapore does not seek to make a “profit”. All revenues are used to cover expenses of the program and to continuously expand its resources, develop its facilities, and engage the best faculty for the benefit of its students.
13. When was UNLV Singapore established?
In February 2005, the Board of Regents for the State of Nevada approved the development of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ first international campus in Singapore. Undergraduate classes began in September, 2006 and Executive Masters courses began in November, 2006.
