The Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Singapore campus have come together to offer the Professional Conversion Programme for Hospitality Managers enabling professionals and experienced managers to embark upon a new career path in the tourism sector.

A scholarship grant of S$45,000 and training stipend of up to S$30,000 for a 15- month programme enables the candidate, a Singaporean or PR, to study towards a UNLV Singapore’s Master of Hospitality Administration degree while working in participating hotels to gain a variety of practical work experiences to position themselves for a hospitality management career.

UNLV SINGAPORE MASTER OF HOSPITALITY ADMINISTRATION (MHA)

The UNLV Singapore MHA degree offers a comprehensive education degree providing candidates the unique opportunity to network with regionally based industry executives. The Masters programme analyzes the industry’s best practices and imparts pragmatic research methodologies. It is a 30 credit program, and can be completed in 15 months. UNLV Singapore’s Masters Programme Overview:

  • All students must attend five 3-month modules
  • Each module consists of two courses and requires candidates to attend an intensive one-week seminar on campus
  • Seminars are held once every three months at the UNLV Singapore campus
  • A final one-week seminar is held on UNLV’s campus in Las Vegas. This allows Masters candidates to travel to Las Vegas and to conduct a real time industry research or operational project.

15 MONTH HOTEL PROPERTY WORK INTERNSHIP

Candidates selected for the programme will be expected to work full-time for partnering hotel properties for the duration of the UNLV MHA degree programme. The work component is progressive, allowing exposure to the front lines of the property and supervisory/managerial roles as well.

Each work component will be unique to the property to which a candidate is selected, and the programme customized to meet the property training ideologies. Candidates can look forward to the following exposure during their internships:

Front-line Experience

  • Working in various departments, this time will be spent learning hands-on skill sets and understanding basic fundamentals of property functions
  • Candidates will rotate through a minimum of 3-4 departments
Supervisory / Managerial Experience
  • Working in various departments, this time will be spent learning the supervisory and managerial components that build upon the front-line experience
  • Candidates will rotate through various departments
Concentration Experience
  • After exposure to various departments of a property a concentration will be determined between the property and the applicant
  • Special project work as well as specialized training will be conducted during this time

To ensure the growth of the applicant through this process, the property and UNLV Singapore will conduct frequent assessments of work and study activity to ensure guidelines and expectations are being met.
